Q: How would we define “crisis”?

A: 
“ A time of great disagreement , confusion, or suffering; an extremely difficult or dangerous point in a situation" (Cambridge University Press, 2025).


Q: What exactly is "crisis intervention"?

A:
Crisis intervention is a "short-term management technique" designed to reduce potential permanent damage to an individual affected by a crisis (Wang, D. and V. Gupta).


Q: How is crisis intervention delivered?

A: Crisis intervention can be delivered by phone, virtual means (Zoom, etc.), or in person. Being physically present with people in crisis is preferred if a death has occurred. Delivery of crisis intervention will be discussed with the affected persons beforehand to make certain the best option is determined.

  • A proactive response to address the immediate needs of PCG ministers and their families.
  • A collaboration between PCG Chaplains, district leaders, and pastors to assist PCG ministers and their families to navigate unique circumstances.
  • An opportunity to refer PCG ministers and their families to additional resources that can meet their urgent needs during a crisis.

Confidentiality during and after crisis intervention is paramount. Individuals in crisis will be informed about the confidentiality limitations. Beyond the exceptions to confidentiality, Crisis Intervention Chaplains will only discuss details of a crisis with PCG staff who may need to know facts with the intention of approving additional assistance.

the crisis intervention pROCESS...

  • The PCG minister or family member will notify his or her District Leader or Pastor (or directly contact the Crisis Intervention Director) about any crisis that is personally affecting them.
  • The District Leader or Pastor will notify the Crisis Intervention Chaplain of the need for intervention.
  • The minister or family member in crisis will be contacted by the district's Crisis Intervention Chaplain as soon as possible to conduct care and / or refer to additional resources.
  • Follow up care by the Crisis Intervention Chaplain will be conducted as needed with permission of the PCG minister or family member.

Director, PCG Pastoral Care

Tammie L. Elfadili is a Mental Health Chaplain at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston, TX. She provides pastoral care to Veterans with acute mental health issues and concerns. Tammie is also a chaplain in the United States Army Reserve and is endorsed by the Pentecostal Church of God (PCG). She is the Command Chaplain of the 84th Training Command, located at Fort Knox, Kentucky. She earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Oral Roberts University in 2018.
