Typhoon Haiyan slammed into the central Philippines island of Leyte on Friday devastating entire cities as it roared through these middle islands. Everyone’s eyes have been on television newscasts and internet news sources trying to find out information about family and friends living in those areas.
Missionaries David and Paula Parkman, now stateside on itineration, tell us that there are twenty churches on the island of Leyte and a total of fifty churches in the immediate storm area. In a message we received from Dr. Felix Labang, national bishop of the Philippines, he shared that they do know the church in Bohol and Tacloban City are totally destroyed. Communication is extremely difficult and probably will be for days to come. We may not know the total devastation to our churches, pastors, and congregations for some time. By the news and photos that we are seeing we do know this storm of storms has created havoc over a very large and vulnerable area.
This is our family and I know you and your church will want to help assist them in recovering from what could be total loss for many of them. You can donate in the following ways.
